The Seattle Department of Transportation and King County Metro are partnering together to bring RapidRide to Madison St
The Madison St project area is busy, dense, and still growing. We're making street improvements to Madison and Spring streets that will allow King County Metro to operate frequent and reliable RapidRide G bus service from Downtown to Madison Valley.
Construction for the project is 50% complete!
We're working to make progress on construction as safely and efficiently as possible. Typical work hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. We have obtained a noise variance to complete construction activities within allowable noise limits for work outside of these hours.

E Madison St closed between 12th Ave and 14th Ave for 2 weeks starting Monday, March 6
Starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, March 6, we will fully close E Madison St between 12th Ave and 14th Ave. The road will reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday, March 20. There will be a signed detour for people driving and buses will be rerouted. The closure is necessary as we work on replacing a 120-year-old watermain.
What to expect:
· Eastbound traffic detoured to Union St and 19th Ave
· Westbound traffic detoured to Pike St and 12th Ave
· Southbound 14th Ave will be local access only between Pine St and Pike St. Southbound 14th Ave will be closed from Pike St to Union St
· Northbound 14th Ave will remain open. People driving on northbound 14th Ave will be able to continue northbound across Madison St or turn right on Madison St.
· Pedestrian access will be maintained, although there will be intermittent sidewalk and crosswalk closures through the work area. People walking and rolling should follow signed detours and be prepared for closures and detour routes to change as the work progresses.
· Pedestrian access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
· King County Metro bus routes 2 and 12 will be rerouted around the closure.
