Program 26: SPU Broadview
Our Levy to Move Seattle commitment: Make residential streets without sidewalks safer and more comfortable for walking through partnership with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) in the flood-prone Broadview neighborhood.
As part of this dynamic partnership between SPU and SDOT, we are installing sidewalks along Greenwood Ave N and building a neighborhood greenway on 1st Ave NW connecting to Broadview Thomson K-8 School.
We are constructing the sidewalks in two phases.
Phase 1 is from N 117th St to N 125th St. We substantially completed these sidewalks in 2022!
 New sidewalks on Greenwood Ave N.
We built 11 blocks of traditional sidewalks from NE 117th St to NE 125th St. We also added new ADA curb ramps, pedestrian signal improvements, new landscaping, and more. As part of this project, we planted 49 new trees!
One Seattle resident expressed gratitude for the new sidewalks. They explained, “Yesterday, Sunday I had to be somewhere at 2 pm, I missed the bus (my error), therefore knowing that the next #5 would show up in about 25 minutes, I just kept walking on the west side of Greenwood going south. The sidewalks are all done, the trees have been planted, there are some etched signs in the sidewalks that read "Seattle move" and the fences of the homes have been completely redone. It all looked so good and it was so simple to keep walking from 130th to 110th, then the bus came by. I did not have to walk on the street, dodging traffic or avoiding cars who used to be right on the sidewalks. It took a while, and now it's done. Thank you all.”
Phase 2 includes sidewalks from N 125th St to N 130th St and the neighborhood greenway on 1st Ave NW.
We are finalizing design on these sidewalks and neighborhood greenway now. The new sidewalks will help connect students to Broadview Thomson K-8 School.
In total, we are building almost 19 blocks of sidewalk and approximately 1.5 miles of neighborhood greenway as part of this program. We expect to complete all improvements in this program as soon as 2023.
