The Seattle Department of Transportation and King County Metro are partnering together to bring RapidRide to Madison St

The Madison St project area is busy, dense, and still growing. We're making street improvements to Madison and Spring streets that will allow King County Metro to operate frequent and reliable RapidRide G bus service from Downtown to Madison Valley.

Construction for the project is now 50% complete!

We're working to make progress on construction as safely and efficiently as possible. Typical work hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. We have obtained a noise variance to complete construction activities within allowable noise limits for work outside of these hours.

Women woken from sleep

What's all that noise?!

If you live near the intersection of Madison St and 12th Ave you may have recently been awoken at night by the sounds of construction and thought to yourself What is going on?

Well, here's what all the ruckus is about: We are working with Seattle Public Utilities to replace a century-old watermain as part of this project. We're doing much of that work at night in order to minimize the impacts of water shut-offs to residents and businesses, as well as reduce the impact to the traveling public. We understand that construction at night is difficult, and we complete the noisiest activities before 10 PM, as is required by the contractor's nighttime construction variance.

Still, we do our very best to minimize the number of times that we have to work after-hours. Trust us when we say our crews would rather be sleeping as well! We appreciate your patience with us as we try to complete this critical work as quickly as possible!

And once you do fall back asleep, you can dream of fast, reliable RapidRide G bus service coming your way soon!

These businesses offer a wide variety of delicious food and high-quality services that are accessible even during construction, so stop by!

Pedestrian access is open, and parking is available on any number of side streets around these locations. If you're planning on taking the bus, the stop has been moved a half-block to the west of its normal location.

If you visit any of these businesses, you will likely see our crews working nearby. They are busy installing electric conduit for trolley wires and lighting as well as rebuilding the sidewalk.
