We're expanding the bus only hours in Interbay

Thank you for taking our surveys!

We received 458 responses from people who travel, live, and work on Elliott Ave W and 15th Ave W. Through our surveys, we heard:

  • People rely on the bus through this area and expanding the hours of the bus only restrictions will better serve many people. More frequent and reliable bus service is still needed.
  • Safety is a top priority. Speeding vehicles, and the lack of crosswalks and sidewalks for people walking and rolling are key concerns.
  • There are concerns about reduced availability of on-street parking and loading access with expanding the bus only restrictions.

Your feedback helped finalize our plans to expand the bus only restrictions and add new loading zones to accommodate needs of businesses. We also heard your priorities for other potential future investments to further improve safety and accessibility for people on the bus and the street.

We’re expanding the existing bus only restrictions to 7 – 9 AM and 3 – 7 PM

We’re changing the existing bus only restrictions to 7 - 9 AM and 3 - 7 PM (except for Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays) between W Armour St and W Mercer Pl/W Roy St. This change only applies to areas where bus only restrictions currently exist. We're not adding any new bus only restrictions to locations where they currently don’t exist. We're also not changing the bus only restrictions on Elliott Ave W south of W Roy St and W Mercer Pl. This map shows the areas where we are expanding the bus only hours.

Loading zones and signal upgrades at 15th Ave and Dravus St

We are adding a few new loading zones in specific areas to help accommodate the access needs for businesses. If you would like to request a loading zone near your residence or business in the future, you can call 206-684-7623, or visit our webpage for more information. We expect the new bus only restrictions and load zones to be in place by the end of the year. Look for updated signage on the street and at loading zones once the new restrictions are in effect. We also plan to upgrade the vehicle detection system at the signal at 15th Ave and Dravus St. We plan to make these signal upgrades in 2023, which will help people walking, rolling, and driving travel more efficiently through the intersection.

We acknowledge that changing the bus only restrictions may impact people who use the curb lane for street parking or loading, and that it may take people time to get used to the change. Based on our parking study, outreach, and the new load zones, we believe that there are adequate parking and loading options to meet these needs. Expanding the bus only hours now will help improve transit reliability for the many people who take the bus through this area and support the City’s climate goals by expanding our network of transit lanes.
