Melrose Promenade Project Updates

Completed east side of E Pike and Melrose Ave raised intersection

Construction updates: October 7, 2022

This week, we installed the first section of the new raised crosswalk at E Pike St! Check out this short video of the installation.

Next week, we’ll switch to the west side of Melrose Ave to start building the widened sidewalk, install the new curb bulb at Minor Ave/Melrose Ave, and continue work on the raised intersection at E Pike St. During this work, Melrose Ave will be converted to a one-way going northbound. This work includes demolition and pavement breaking, which will be noisy. Business and residential access will be maintained.

Later in October, we’ll complete the raised intersections at E Pike St which will require short term full closures of Melrose Ave while we pour concrete. These closures will last approximately 4-6 hours at a time, likely between 9 AM – 3 PM. Closures are tentatively scheduled for the week of Oct. 17

During construction, you can expect:

  • Reduced sidewalk width on the west side of Melrose Ave sidewalk will remain open
  • Melrose Ave converted to a one-way going northbound between E Pike St and E Pine St
  • Parking restricted on both sides of Melrose Ave between E Pike St and E Pine St
  • Parking restricted on both sides of Minor Ave between E Pike St and E Pine St
  • Weekday working hours from 7 AM – 5 PM
  • Noise, dust, and vibrations during work hours
  • Construction equipment and materials staged in the work area

Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Please use caution when traveling through the area and follow all posted signage.

Seattle Transportation Plan | Share your thoughts with us!

We’ve launched the second phase of outreach on the Seattle Transportation Plan. We’ve heard your vision for the future of transportation. Now we need your help to turn those ideas into actions!

  • The Seattle Transportation Plan (STP) is our commitment to building a transportation system that provides everyone with access to safe, efficient, and affordable options to reach places and opportunities. We need your help to create this plan.
  • Together, we are reimagining how we move around the city and enjoy our streets and public spaces
  • We listened to what you shared with us during our first phase of engagement and started planning. Tell us if we are on the right track and share your input on the Online Engagement Hub.
  • We have added more ways for you to help create the STP with us:
    • Review the STP vision, goals, and objectives
    • Share what future of transportation you want to see
    • Tell us what actions you like and how they can become part of our transportation system

Thank you!

Thank you in advance for your patience during construction, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or comments.

Sincerely,
