It’s important that you know where your tax dollars are going. Earlier this year, we started something new. Every two weeks, we are highlighting a Levy program or project in this newsletter.
Program 9 - Arterial Roadway Maintenance &
Program 10 – Paving Spot Improvements
Our Levy to Move Seattle commitments:
Program 9 - Repave up to 180 lane-miles of arterial streets, maintaining and modernizing 35% of Seattle’s busiest streets carrying the most people and goods.
Program 10 - SDOT will repave 65 targeted locations every year, totaling about 70 lane-miles of arterial street, with a repair and maintenance program run by City crews.
Every year, we pave arterial streets to keep you moving, whether you’re biking, walking, riding the bus, or driving. Paving projects help to move people and goods more safely and efficiently.
Keeping our transportation system in a state of good repair helps lower the cost of future maintenance. We prioritize paving based on street pavement condition, traffic volume, geographic equity, cost, and opportunities for grants or coordination with other projects in the area.
Approximately 80% of the funding for these paving projects comes from the Levy to Move Seattle.
In 2022 alone, we have already repaved over 15 lane-miles of streets across both programs. (Lane mileage is the total amount of miles covered by a road’s lanes. This means that if there were 2.5 miles of repaving across two lanes, there were five lane miles of repaving.)
