The Seattle Department of Transportation is pleased to announce a new project focused on improvements along Aurora Ave for people who walk, bike, take transit, and drive. Together with King County Metro, we are working to develop a refreshed planning and design study for Aurora Ave (from Harrison St to N145th St) with funding from a WSDOT Pedestrian and Bicycle Program grant we received in 2021! Additional funding comes from King County Metro and the Levy to Move Seattle.
While this project is currently in early planning stages, we will begin summer outreach activities soon to help engage with and gather feedback from community members in the project area.
The Aurora Ave/State Route 99 corridor is one of the highest traffic volume streets in Seattle. The corridor supports one of Seattle’s busiest transit lanes and offers connections to dense housing, businesses, social services, and employment opportunities. In 2003 a Route Development Plan was published, and while recommendations for near-term improvements were included, few improvements were implemented at the time. The plan included recommendations to improve safety and accessibility for people walking, biking, and driving on Aurora.
We would like to invite you to take this survey to help us better understand ways to improve safety for people walking, biking, and driving on Aurora Ave. Your feedback is crucial in this first phase of the project to help us identify what changes the community needs to enhance safety for all travelers.
The survey is available in multiple languages: Chinese (traditional), Korean, Spanish, Tagalog, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese and will be open until the end of September.
