Thank you for your interest in the Levy to Move Seattle.
It’s important you know where your tax dollars are going. Earlier this year, we started something new. Every two weeks, we are highlighting a Levy program or project in this newsletter.
Levy to Move Seattle Program Spotlight
Program 5 - Bicycle Safety
Our Levy to Move Seattle commitment: Build approximately 50 miles of new protected bike lanes and 60 miles of greenways, completing over half of the Bicycle Master Plan citywide network.
We have met the revised target set in 2018 of 50-55 total miles of bicycle facilities.
The Levy to Move Seattle has allowed us to strengthen Seattle's bicycle network to help people of all ages and abilities get around the city by bike. In fact, People for Bikes recently announced that Seattle is the third-best large U.S. city to bike in!
Since the Levy to Move Seattle began in 2016, we have completed:
-
Over 24 miles of protected bike lanes: Protected bike lanes provide space for people biking that is separated from vehicle travel lanes with a physical barrier, parking lanes, or sidewalks.
-
Over 26 miles of Neighborhood Greenways: Neighborhood greenways are safer, calmer residential streets for you, your family, and neighbors where we make people walking, rolling, and biking the priority. Neighborhood greenways can include: easier crossings of busy streets (traffic signals, flashing beacons or marked crosswalks), prioritizing people walking and biking along the route (speed humps to calm traffic and stop signs on the side streets), and signs and pavement markings to help people find their way.
-
Over 4 miles of bike lanes: A bike lane is a portion of the street that has been designated by striping, signage, and pavement markings for people biking.
Our 2022 bike map is the most up-to-date map of Seattle’s bike lanes, neighborhood greenways, and other bicycle connections in Seattle. You can get a 2022 map mailed to you for free: request a copy. Also, take a look at the new Seattle Bike Guide to get familiar with bicycling around town.
Here are just a few of the many bike routes available to you, thanks to the Levy to Move Seattle!
Above: The new protected bike lanes on N 34th St are part of a cross-country bike trail that will ultimately span 3,700 miles.
Above: The West Seattle Neighborhood Greenway improves bicycle connections between Alaska Junction and Westwood Village, and everywhere in between. Here is the new traffic signal and bike crossing at SW Graham St and 35th Ave SW.
Above: People ride on the new protected bike lane on 4th Ave, which runs from Vine St to Yesler Way and is part of the Center City Bike Network, connecting you to many other existing bike routes in the area.
