Seattle Transportation Plan | Opportunities to get involved in planning the future of transportation in Seattle

Department of Transportation logo large

Join us! Together, we are reimagining how we move around the city and enjoy our streets and public spaces.

The Seattle Transportation Plan (STP) is our commitment to building a transportation system that provides everyone with access to safe, efficient, and affordable options to reach places and opportunities. Your input will help us build a transportation system that works better for everyone. The STP will guide local transportation investments for the next 20 years – so we want to hear from you!

What’s happening now?

  • We launched our first round of community engagement on May 31. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share your needs, challenges, values, and priorities so far.
  • Visit our Seattle Transportation Plan Online Engagement Hub to connect to opportunities to get involved.
  • Running alongside the community engagement that will inform the Seattle Transportation Plan, we are developing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Learn more about the EIS process and how to comment below. Any input shared since the start of STP community engagement in March 2022 will be incorporated into the EIS, so you don’t need to re-share any comments you’ve already submitted.

What is the environmental review process for the Seattle Transportation Plan?

The STP will go through the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) review process. SEPA ensures environmental values, such as air quality and climate change impacts, are thoroughly considered during the planning and decision-making processes. Under SEPA, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a required study that provides the City, public, and other agencies with anticipated environmental outcomes of the Seattle Transportation Plan. See our SEPA Fact Sheet, review the Scoping Notice, or visit the project website to learn more!

Scoping Comment Period: June 16 - July 16, 2022

Scoping provides an opportunity for the community to share input with SDOT about what will be included in the Environmental Impact Statement. Agencies, affected tribes, and members of the public are invited to comment on the scope of the EIS. You may comment on alternatives, mitigation measures, probable significant adverse impacts, and licenses or other approvals that may be required.

  • City Contact: Radcliffe Dacanay, Principal Planner, Seattle Department of Transportation
  • Email comments to radcliffe.dacanay@seattle.gov with the email subject “SEPA comment.” To comment by phone, call (206) 945-2407. Email comments are preferred.
  • Join us for a virtual meeting on June 21, 2022, at 6 PM! This meeting will be an opportunity to comment on the EIS and share your ideas for the future of transportation in Seattle. Use this link to participate in the virtual meeting: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87467428442.

How does the EIS support the Seattle Transportation Plan?

The EIS will reinforce our commitment to transparency and contribute to informed decision-making. The findings of the EIS, combined with community input shared through our engagement tools, will help shape the Seattle Transportation Plan.

Together, we will build a transportation system that works better for everyone now and in the future.
