News about the week ahead for the West Seattle Bridge Program.
This week, we poured concrete for one of the bridge’s replacement overhead sign structures, which hold the directional signage you see when driving on the bridge. As maintenance work continues, we will replace eight more of these sign structures on the bridge.
Preparing wooden forms for a post-tensioning anchor block.
We made more progress on post-tensioning preparation and other elements of the repair work such as additional exterior epoxy crack injection and carbon-fiber wrapping. Epoxy injections and carbon-fiber work will continue both before and after the bridge is post-tensioned.
Applying carbon-fiber sheets to the underside of the bridge to strengthen the concrete.
Grinding down sections of the bridge deck to prepare for new concrete.
We also began the process of replacing the concrete surface on sections of the Fauntleroy Expressway, which is the structure to the west of the high bridge that connects it to Fauntleroy Way. This work involves grinding away a half inch of the bridge’s deck in preparation for new concrete in the future. We want to ensure that the roadway surface is ready for traffic when the bridge reopens.
Starting Saturday, 7 AM to 5 PM, we’ll be working in Georgetown on 6th Ave S between S Orcas St and S Michigan St as part of our Reconnect West Seattle Home Zone work in Georgetown to upgrade the street for people walking, biking, and rolling. We will be working on one side of the street and we will maintain traffic while completing the work. There will not be any impacts to S Michigan St. Please navigate the area with caution.
Also on Saturday, we’ll be replacing three traffic signs on SW Spokane St in the eastbound direction near 26th Ave SW. We anticipate this work to begin as early as 7 AM and conclude by 5 PM. We’ll need to reduce the two travel lanes to a single lane and there may be delays for people driving.
On Sunday, from 7 AM to 5 PM we will be working in South Park on the Duwamish River Trail from S Trenton St to S Henderson St (east of WA 509) to repair root damage on the trail. The trail will be closed while we make these upgrades, however there will be an escort available for those that need to travel through the area. This work is part of the Reconnect West Seattle Home Zone in South Park.
