This past weekend, our crews poured specialized concrete that will strengthen the West Seattle Bridge.
We’ll use this structural concrete the bridge to hold the new steel cables for the improved post-tensioning system. This will further strengthen the bridge beyond the emergency repairs completed last year.

We’ll need a total of 245 cubic yards (about 30 truckloads) of specialized concrete for the post-tensioning system. The concrete will be used to hold 46 miles of steel cables and will be capable of holding millions of pounds of force.
In addition to concrete work, we continue to make progress on other work needed to strengthen and reopen the bridge. Last week, we completed the final core drills through the bridge’s pier structures. We also continue to fill existing cracks with epoxy and install carbon wrapping on both the interior and exterior of the bridge. Watch this video to learn more about these repair methods.
We’re encouraged to be making progress on concrete work delayed by the strike. After the concrete pours are completed and the work is inspected, we will be able to revisit the project schedule and share an update about the timing of the reopening, originally scheduled for mid-2022.

On Saturday and Sunday, we will repave two blocks of SW 106th St between Seola Beach Drive and 32nd Ave SW. We’ll begin this work as early as 7 AM and expect to be done by 3 PM. If you are driving on SW 106th St during this work be prepared for single lane reductions. Please anticipate traffic delays. We do not expect impacts for people walking and biking in the area.
