SPP Teacher and Students in Preschool Classroom

Language Assistance Available

Applications are now open for the City of Seattle's award-winning, high quality preschool program, available to 3- and 4-year-olds living in Seattle.

Seven new Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) classrooms will open this fall, meaning that families can now choose from 88 different sites around the city. Dual-language classrooms and inclusive classrooms for children with disabilities are available, and tuition is free for most Seattle families, with higher income households paying on a sliding scale based on household size and income. Families who need assistance completing the application process can reach out to DEEL at (206) 386-1050 or preschool@seattle.gov. In-language assistance is also available. Please help us spread the word!

New Utility Relief Available for Families

Take Action to Receive Help with Utility Bills

The Washington State budget includes funding to help families pay outstanding balances accumulated on their Seattle City Light or Seattle Public Utilities bills during the COVID-19 pandemic. Families may already qualify for funding if they currently receive assistance from the Utility Discount Program or if they have received emergency bill assistance from either Seattle City Light or Seattle Public Utilities since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020.

Households not currently participating in the Utility Discount Program or who have not received emergency bill assistance since March 2020 can apply for the Utility Discount Program by March 31, 2022, to establish their household's eligibility for this state funding.

Depending on availability, funds will be applied directly to eligible accounts by Seattle City Light and/or Seattle Public Utilities.

The Utility Discount Program provides an ongoing 60% discount off your Seattle City Light electricity bill and a 50% discount off your Seattle Public Utilities bill. The table below shows the program’s household income limits. Gross household income includes the pre-tax income of all household members 18 years of age or older living at the address.

Families can visit seattle.gov/udp for more information on program eligibility and to view translated program information.
