Melrose Promenade Construction Updates

Construction is off to a great start! Over the last 2 weeks, we've made progress on the drainage and electrical work at the intersection of Melrose Ave and E Pine St. This work will continue into next week.

There's been recent progress on the ongoing strike of concrete drivers and plant workers. We’re still determining how this affects the construction schedule and when concrete may be available for the project. We will update you when we have more information.

Upcoming construction activities

Over the next few weeks, we’ll install drainage improvements at the SE and SW corners of E Pine St and Melrose Ave. We'll also install electrical conduits on Olive Way, just west of Melrose Ave.

During construction, you can expect noise, dust, and vibrations, particularly during pavement cutting and breaking. These noisier activities will only last a few hours at a time. When work is complete, we will place asphalt patches until final restoration at a later stage of the project. Here is more on what you can expect:

  • E Pine St: Temporary, short-term parking restrictions in the areas adjacent to the SW and SE corners of E Pine St and Melrose Ave.
  • E Olive Way: Temporary, short-term single lane closures on Olive Way between the I-5 off-ramp and Melrose Ave. Vehicles exiting I-5 will merge with traffic on Olive Way with assistance from a flagger.

Please note that work schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

Tree trimming and removal

We’ll also trim some trees for overhead wire clearance and remove a limited number of trees. Notices will be posted to trees being removed 2 weeks in advance. At a later stage of the project, we’ll plant new trees at multiple locations in the project area.

Parking enforcement

We’ve heard recent concerns about vehicles improperly parking and blocking driveways, particularly in the Pike to Pine block. Starting this week, parking enforcement will begin monitoring the area on a regular basis. Please be sure to follow posted parking signs and parking regulations. If you’re looking for places to park your car, check out our parking map.

Questions or comments?

If you haven’t already completed the pre-construction survey, please do so to let us know your needs during construction. Thanks to all those who have already completed the survey!

Help shape transportation in Seattle

Below are two exciting opportunities for you to help shape transportation in Seattle. We encourage you to take a look and get involved!

Seattle Transportation Plan

We've launched a public engagement process to establish a renewed vision for the future of Seattle's streets and public spaces. Working together, we'll reimagine how we move around the city and enjoy our streets by developing the Seattle Transportation Plan (STP). Our project webpage is updated regularly with information and opportunities to participate. You can also sign up to receive emails about the STP. This work is happening along with the Seattle Comprehensive Plan update—the framework for big-picture decisions on how the city grows and evolves and includes a transportation section.

Apply to serve on a transportation board or committee

SDOT has several current and future volunteer opportunities for members of the public to get involved and help shape how transportation works in the city. With 6 boards and committees, each with a specific focus, there are multiple opportunities to serve as an advisor to the Mayor, City Council, and City departments. Members of these boards and committees bring valuable community perspectives and promote robust, inclusive public dialogue on projects of a variety of sizes.

Check out our blog for more information on these boards and committees and opportunities to get involved.

Thank you

Thank you again for your interest in the Melrose Promenade Project, and for your patience and support during construction. Please encourage your neighbors to sign up for project email updates to stay informed on the project as construction continues.

Enjoy the weekend,
