Seattle Fire around the community

Toys for Tots

Toys for tots
toys for tots

Seattle Fire’s annual Toys for Tots campaign completed a highly successful season. Like we did in 2020, the department held three community collection events at specific locations instead of installing boxes in each station. This provided the public easier access while our stations remain closed.

Volunteers from the Seattle Fire Foundation, Aetna and members of the U.S. Marine Corps joined firefighters and Public Affairs staff on Nov. 28, Dec. 4 and Dec. 5. We had a great time saying “hello” to thousands of people who met us at the University Village QFC, Westwood Village QFC and in front of SFD HQ before the Seahawks’ epic win against the 49ers.

The Seattle Fire Foundation collected $4,000 in cash and has received another $5,000 donation from Aetna to purchase toys this year to add to the 20 boxes collected across all three events. Our partnership with the Seattle Fire Foundation helps the Marine Corps purchase items for age groups that normally are underserved in toy drives (babies and teens). Thank you to all who contributed to help bring joy as well as a message of hope to less fortunate children.

Saving lives when the radiation alarm sounds

Medium article

The Medium published an article featuring a Joint Training exercise we conducted at Fort
Lawton on Nov. 3 with the WA Dept. of Health Radiation Response Team, FBI, 10th Civil
Support Team, Region 7 RAP Team and Station 27. Such exercises are critical to maintain
solid working relationships with state and federal partners.

The winter holidays are upon us, and we have partnered with other fire agencies within King County to share timely safety messages. South King Fire and Rescue set up holiday decorations at Fire Station 66 while additional Public Information Officers from Bellevue Fire, Eastside Fire and Rescue and Seattle Fire conducted safety demonstrations, which were recorded for news stories by the four local news stations. Look for a series of holiday safety videos on Seattle Fire's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
