 October is Fire Prevention Month in Seattle and this year the Seattle Fire Department is highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms and knowing how to safely respond to a sounding alarm. Watch and share this new smoke alarm video from the Seattle Fire Department.

- Over 40 percent of home fire deaths resulted from fires in which no smoke alarms were present.

Where to install smoke alarms – Smoke alarms should be installed in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.
With the end of Daylight Saving Time approaching, it's a good time to replace smoke alarms that are over 10 years old and to replace smoke alarm batteries. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 7, 2021.
