 A large percentage of essential workers come from communities of color, which has put those communities at higher risk throughout the pandemic in countless ways. Leaders of Seattle-area communities gathered to discuss what has changed, and why, going forward, the status quo won’t cut it.
 How is downtown Seattle navigating the ongoing impact of the pandemic, recent protests, lack of affordable housing, and other social and economic factors? On May 5, Civic Cocktail will host Bob Donegan, President of Ivar’s, and Brian Surratt, VP of Real Estate Development and Community Relations for Alexandria Real Estate and former director of the City of Seattle’s Office of Economic Development, to discuss the history of the Emerald City and their vision as downtown shifts from surviving to thriving.
 All Washington residents over the age of 16 are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and can register immediately for one of thousands of appointments available now at the four City of Seattle-affiliated vaccination sites: Lumen Field, Rainier Beach, West Seattle, and North Seattle. If you’re unable to book an appointment this week, sign up for the City’s notification list and get notified via email as soon as appointments are available at any of the four City-affiliated sites. If you know someone 60 or older who hasn’t been vaccinated, take them to the vaccination hubs in Rainier Beach and West Seattle, and you’ll both get vaccinated without an appointment. You can find more information on the new Good Neighbor walk-in program here.
