Dear neighbors,
In spring 2021, we'll have a new round of temporary artwork installed along our construction sites. Want to be a part of it? Seattle artist Janelle Abbott is taking t-shirt donations now through Dec. 31 to create her piece in Wallingford. (see sketch above)

Ballard

Photo showing Ballard shaft excavation

Shaft excavation continues. So far, we've dug down about 85 ft and have about 37 ft to go! During this time, you can expect:

  • An uptick in truck traffic as soil is hauled off site. Trucks will travel along Shilshole Ave NW to NW 46th St to 14th Ave NW up to NW Market St then north along 15th Ave NW, to Holman Road NW towards I-5. (see map)

Working hours are expected to be 7 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.

East Ballard

Soil stabilization continues. Through late December, you should anticipate:

  • NW 45th St closed to traffic; vehicles must detour onto NW 46th St.
  • 11th Ave NW open with occasional one-lane closures. During a closure, two-way traffic will be maintained via one lane controlled by flaggers.
  • Burke-Gilman Trail users remain detoured to the north side of NW 45th St; flaggers to help direct traffic during daytime working hours. Please follow all detour guidance on site. Bicyclists must cross train tracks at 90-degree angles.

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.

See anticipated traffic impacts through 2022 on our website.

Fremont

Secant pile wall construction continues until late December. So far we've installed 18 of the 46 total piles. For the next several weeks, you should anticipate:

  • Heavy equipment on site such as the drill rig, an oscillator, and a crane.
  • Trucks coming in and out of the site to haul away excavated material and deliver concrete.
  • Noise and vibration from the drill rig. You may be able to feel the vibration which is expected. We are monitoring vibration levels on site to ensure they are within allowable levels.
  • NW 36th St between Leary Way NW and 3rd Ave NW closed (through remainder of the project).
  • Pedestrians detoured to the north side of Leary Way NW.
  • A pump and bypass system running 24/7 to re-route an existing drainage line around the secant pile construction. This system is powered by a generator and will be in place through the end of the year.

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. However, the contractor anticipates working on Saturdays throughout mid-December, 9 am to 5 pm, to maintain progress.

Wallingford

Map showing traffic impacts of well monitoring installation on N 35th St

Crews will install a monitoring well and a dewatering discharge pipe in N 35th St to prep for secant pile wall construction. Monitoring wells help monitor groundwater levels while the discharge pipe coveys it into the drainage system.

  • During monitoring well installation, the northern parking lane on N 35th St between Interlake Ave N and Stone Way Ave N will be closed. The westbound traffic lane will be shifted south. Two-way traffic will be maintained (see map). This work is expected to start Nov. 12 and take about three days.
  • Following the monitoring well work, there will be impacts to Interlake Ave N and N 35th St for the discharge pipe installation. This work is planned to start in late November and will take one to two weeks. We will send more detailed traffic information once the permits for this work have been approved.

Over the next few weeks, regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.

Queen Anne

  • Trucks coming in and out of the site to haul away excavated material and deliver concrete.
  • Noise and vibration from the drill rig. You may be able to feel the vibration which is expected. We are monitoring vibration levels on site to ensure they are within allowable levels.
  • The West Ewing Mini Park parking lot closed. This closure is anticipated to last through mid-2023.
  • A localized Ship Canal Trail detour through summer 2022 (see map).
