Dear neighbors,

See the Ship Canal Water Quality project updates below and be on the lookout for additional East Ballard and Fremont construction information in your inbox later this month!

Ballard

Sound containment wall materials

Last week the contractor prepared the site for construction. Crews removed trees along the east side of the site and received materials for the 12-ft high sound containment wall (see photo above). Over the next few weeks, the contractor will remove mulch, pave a temporary construction asphalt road on site to support machinery, and install the sound containment wall. Typical work hours will be 7 am to 5 pm with possible evening and weekend work.

Near-term anticipated impacts may include:

  • Short interruptions on Shilshole Ave NW for trucks entering the work zone, and 24th Ave NW for trucks exiting the site; please pay attention to flaggers
  • Parking restrictions along the east side of 24th Ave NW so construction trucks can exit the work site
  • A drill rig will arrive on site to install steel beam fence posts
  • Noise typical of a large construction site

The 24th Ave NW pier is temporarily open to pedestrians!

The 24th Ave NW public pier is open to pedestrians from now until the end of August 2020 when in-water work will begin. Feel free to visit and check out the new artwork on the pier deck. Please use caution as trucks use 24th Ave NW for construction activities. The pier remains closed to boats include hand-carry watercraft.
