Meet Osbaldo Hernandez, our new Community Engagement Coordinator

Osbaldo Hernandez is the newest addition to our Community Outreach and Engagement team, serving as the Community Engagement Coordinator for South and West Seattle. He joined us from Lutheran Community Services NW where he served as Program Manager - developing programs to support homeless families and individuals. He is also co-owner of Frelard Tamales!

Celebrate Welcome Week in Seattle’s Parks: From September 17-21, join Seattle Parks and Recreation to celebrate Welcoming America Week with a series of events in downtown parks catered towards showing the world how our community welcomes everyone, including immigrants and refugees. (more)

West Seattle and Ballard Link Extension: Sound Transit staff conducted initial assessments on some suggested alternatives that came from public comment. Review the results and share your feedback. (more)

Help Rename University Street Station: Sound Transit is planning to rename downtown Seattle’s University Street Station, and they are asking for public input. (more)

Funding Opportunities Available for Community Programs: The Seattle Park District has three great funding programs focused on funding priority populations, including people of color, immigrants and refugees, and the LGBTQ community. (more)

Volunteer for the Seattle/King County Clinic: Volunteer registration is now open for the February 2020 Clinic and related events. With the help of more than 800 volunteers a day, this clinic aims to provide $2.5M in care to 3,000 patients. (more)

3rd Annual African Community & Organization Leaders’ Summit on September 21: Join this historical and interactive gathering of grassroots leaders, community organizers, and professionals. (more)

Take the Housing Choices Survey: Housing Choices is a new effort by the City of Seattle focused on creating more housing options, in more places, for more people. The City wants to hear your perspective to understand the issues and explore potential responses. (more)

Seattle LGBTQ Commission Seeks Candidates: Join this commission that advises the Mayor, City Council, and City of Seattle departments on issues that affect LGBTQ communities throughout Seattle. Apply by September 27. (more)

Refuge Outdoor Festival Fosters Healing and Community for People of Color

Refuge began in 2018 and is a three-day camping experience designed for people of color. Through workshops, facilitated conversations, art, and music, the festival celebrates diversity in the outdoors while creating spaces for healing.

Garden Innovators Connects Youth to Local Food Systems: This program, based out of the South Park neighborhood, is a Seattle Parks and Recreation youth internship program that focuses on analyzing the societal intersections of culture, food, history, health and wellness, and garden science. (more)
