Happy 22nd Birthday, Sammamish! With all that our community has to offer, it’s easy to forget that we are still a relatively new city. The first settlers arrived in the area in the late 19th century and the plateau remained a mostly rural area until suburban homes, shopping centers, and schools were built in the 1970s and 1980s. A movement to become a city was met with voter approval in 1998 and Sammamish was officially incorporated on August 31, 1999. To celebrate the birthday of our beautiful city, please click on the image to enjoy the wonderful resident-submitted photos!

What do you want Sammamish to look like in 2044? The Community Visioning Project aims to reach residents and stakeholders throughout the City to better understand the vision for Sammamish's future. Input will be used to update the City's vision statement; an aspirational description of the future, highlighting the community values. The vision statement is important because it is one of the tools used to decide how City goals and policies need to be changed as part of the Comprehensive Plan Update starting in early 2022. To learn more and to take a quick poll on the best way for you to provide input, please click on the image!

National Preparedness Month is observed each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. This year’s theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.” Let’s #PrepareTogether
FEMA Region 10 is hosting several virtual sessions throughout the month for you and your family to attend. Visit the FEMA Region 10 Individual and Community Preparedness Dashboard for additional information on how to attend these virtual events.
WEEK 1: MAKE A PLAN
The weekly theme for September 1-4 is "Make a Plan". This week focuses on making an emergency plan. You are encouraged to do the following this week:
- Talk with loved ones about the types of disasters that can impact you. This can be a conversation around the dinner table or a zoom call.
- Plan how to contact one another and have an out-of-area contact. Remember texts are more likely to go through over calls.
- Know how you and your loved ones will reconnect if separated.
- Consider the specific needs in your household when making your plan, including disabilities or accesses and functional needs, medical equipment, medications, etc.
- Practice your plan with everyone involved including your pets!
