Big Rock Park Central is now open and there are several unique features: The historic Reard House, the Heritage Garden and The Treehouse. Big Rock Park Central is the second parcel of land gifted to the City by Mary Pigott. It is just south of Big Rock Park North’s 15 acres which opened in 2016. The addition of Big Rock Park Central provides 20 acres of land covered with dense forest, open meadows, and a stream in the north section. The park is enhanced by 1.5 miles of meandering trails navigating through the property and connecting to Big Rock Park North. The two parks now boast 3 miles of trails to explore! For more details, along with directions and a site map, please click on the image.

Located in Big Rock Park Central and part of the gift from Mary Pigott, this is a custom-built treehouse designed by Terrapin Architecture, TreehouseARTZ, Greenwood Engineers, and Stratum Group. It was constructed around four existing landmark western red cedars and was designed to be as least intrusive as possible onto the health of the trees. It totals approximately 1,440 square feet. The City is offering limited visitation by the public in order to preserve the integrity of the structure and protect the trees in which it resides. Visits are 20-minute sessions beginning on each half hour with a 10-minute buffer time between groups. A max of 15 people are allowed in each session. No walk ups will be allowed. The Treehouse open house dates and times for 2021 are viewable by clicking on the above image.

Have you seen something new on the Sammamish Plaza? It’s a pop up labyrinth! A labyrinth is an ancient design intended for walking, which often fosters calm reflection on the part of the walker. Next time you’re at the Commons or the library, spend an extra 15 minutes to give the labyrinth a spin. You’ll find it on the Plaza between the library and the City Hall. Click on the image to learn more and you can watch a short video on its installation here.
