drug drop-off

Drug Drop-Off Day is tomorrow, Saturday November 9th, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in the lobby of City Hall (right as you come in through the main doors). We do not usually have the drug drop off box available to the public outside of regular City Hall business hours, but for this event have a detective there whose sole purpose will be to empty the bin! Bring your unused and expired prescriptions for proper disposal.

P&R Photo Contest

Our Parks and Recreation Department is having a photo contest! We'd love to see Sammamish parks and trails through your lens. Submissions accepted through November 15, 2019.

Public Hearing

Public Hearing on Amendments to the Sammamish Comprehensive Plan and Sammamish Municipal Code
November 19, 6:30 - 10:00 p.m. at Sammamish City Hall

Notice is hereby given that the City of Sammamish City Council will hold a Public Hearing to consider
amending the City of Sammamish Shoreline Master Program as codified in Title 25 of the Sammamish
Municipal Code (SMC).

SUMMARY OF AMENDMENTS: The Shoreline Management Act (SMA) requires each city and county to
review, and, if necessary, revise their Shoreline Master Program (SMP) at least every eight years following a benchmark comprehensive update. The City of Sammamish completed the required benchmark update with the adoption of the current SMP in 2011. According to the State mandated period review schedule, the City is required to complete a periodic review of the SMP in 2019. The City’s SMP applies to the shorelines of Lake Sammamish, Beaver Lake, and Pine Lake and includes upland areas 200 feet landward of those waterbodies. A periodic review is a State mandated review of the City’s SMP for conformance with the current State SMP requirements. Changes to the City’s SMP are not required if the City and subsequently the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) reaches a finding of adequacy with State requirements, although the City may include desired changes to address local issues. The periodic review process requires both City and State approval even if no changes to the City’s SMP are proposed and a finding of adequacy is made by the City and accepted by the State. The update to the SMP is not only a City action, it also requires final State DOE approval. A preliminary finding of consistency with the SMA and enabling legislation was issued by DOE on August 14, 2019. To finalize the periodic review process, the City must adopt code updates required for consistency with State law as well those required to enhance the SMP. A public hearing at the date, time, and location specified herein is required prior to the City Council taking action on proposed SMP amendments. After final City Council action adopting changes to the SMP, final review and adoption is required by Washington State DOE. Washington State DOE is the final authority on SMP adoption.

HEARING SCHEDULE: Public testimony will be taken by the City Council on November 19, 2019 at a Public Hearing. This Public Hearing will be part of a regular meeting, which will start at 6:30 PM at the City of Sammamish City Hall, located at 801 228th Avenue SE, Sammamish.

DOCUMENT AVAILABILITY: A copy of the proposed SMC Title 25 is available on the City’s website or may
be obtained in hard copy by contacting the City of Sammamish as detailed below.

republic rate adjustment

Heads up, Sammamishians: Effective January 1, 2020, residential and commercial Republic Services customers will see an overall increase in rates of about 1.68%. This rate increase is a Consumer Price Index Adjustment to adjust for inflation for the Seattle-Tacoma-Bremerton Metro Area.

Cone Zone

These are the road work projects scheduled in Sammamish for the week of Nov. 8 - 15.

SCHEDULES MAY CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER AND/OR EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY

4th Street: Curbs and Gutters

Flaggers continue to manage traffic through the construction site. The majority of the underground utility work is complete. The contractor is preparing the remaining portion of the eastbound roadway for pavement and will be starting to grade the north half of the roadway to install curb and gutter. The initial layer of pavement is scheduled to be completed in early December.

UPDATE: Issaquah Fall City Road

The general contractor (GC) has begun work along the corridor. Clearing activities and underground utility work are the emphasis. In addition, third party utilities, including PSE gas, Comcast, and Verizon are relocating facilities in the public right-of-way. Also note:

  • A temporary asphalt walking path has been finished on the north side of the road for students and pedestrians.
  • The Pacific Cascade Middle School (PCMS) sign will be removed soon. A replacement location and design will be coordinated with PCMS.
  • Rough grading has started for the stairs and walkway planned up to the middle school.
  • Some preliminary work may be done on the temporary roundabout at 256th Ave. SE / E Beaver Lake Dr. SE and SE Issaquah-Beaver Lake Rd. The roundabout is planned to be completed before the roadway closure begins for bridge construction in Spring 2020.

Traffic shifted to the north starting October 21; one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Work hours are 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Verizon 5G

Crews are working along 228th between NE 8th and SE 8th to repair concrete; this work is within the limits of the sidewalk. Asphalt repairs will be made on both 228th and Inglewood Hill Road.
