Honoring MLK

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the City of Redmond facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17. Fire, Police, and other critical services will remain fully operational. The King Center Foundation has defined the 2022 MLK holiday observance as the year of “Shifting Priorities to Create the Beloved Community” to support its ongoing work towards creating an “inclusive, achievable society, in which problems and conflict can exist, but are resolved peaceably.”

Poet Laureate

Meet Redmond’s Poet Laureate

Redmond City Council has appointed Laura Da’ as Redmond’s new poet laureate for 2022-23. Da’ is Eastern Shawnee, a poet, and a teacher. A lifetime resident of the Pacific Northwest, Da’ studied creative writing at the University of Washington and the Institute of American Indian Arts.

January is National Blood Donor Month and coincides with one of the hardest times of the year for getting and keeping blood donations at an adequate level to meet anticipated needs. The highest standards of safety protocols are followed at all blood donation sites, including donations by appointment to manage the number of donors at each location.

Did you know the City of Redmond has a convenient disposal site for cooking oils and grease on the City campus? The collection tank is located at the edge of the parking lot at 8703 160th Ave NE. Don't pour FOG (fats, oils, grease) down the drain! Cool it, can it, and trash it at home, or bring your used oil to this easy-access collection site.
