REDMOND, WA - Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the annual August National Night Out gathering was not possible this year. Instead, the City is offering a unique spin on the event for 2020, and residents are invited to participate safely at home in this year’s National Night “In” event. The event takes place during the week of October 5 – 9 alongside National Fire Prevention Week and those wishing to register for participation can simply email their home address to

By taking part in National Night In, members of the community will receive a kit of safety related information delivered to their home during the first full week of October. Along with fire and crime safety information, tips from the Office of Emergency Management will be included to cover preparing for natural disasters. COVID-19 protocols will be followed during the no-contact delivery of the items.

“We certainly miss gathering in-person, but we have come together as a community to find other meaningful ways to connect,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “National Night In is another example of how we can stay connected as neighbors and help keep our community safe.”

Each year, fire departments nationwide respond to over 350,000 residential fires. The majority of these incidents can easily be prevented with proper education. The Redmond Fire Department will provide educational materials to participating households on actions everyone can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

Redmond Police will provide participants tips on how they can improve their home security. Home security involves more than just having an alarm system. Proper crime prevention around the home includes paying attention to landscaping, lighting, and developing relationships with neighbors.
