Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond is seeking two new volunteer members for the Landmark Commission. One position is currently open for residents who live within the city limits, and one position is open for an individual having professional expertise in historic preservation. One of the two members shall also be appointed to serve as a special member on the Regional Landmarks Commission. Applications are currently being accepted, and eligible residents and professionals are encouraged to apply by March 15, 2019.

Since 2005, the Landmark Commission has promoted, protected, and incentivized improvements to landmark properties in Redmond. The Commission reviews Certificates of Appropriateness regarding modifications to designated landmarked properties, recommends to the Redmond City Council regarding applications to the City’s Heritage Grant program, and advises the Mayor and City Council on issues pertaining to historical and archaeological resources. The Commission also works through an Interlocal Agreement with the King County Regional Landmarks Commission for designating properties as historic landmarks.

Commissioners serve four-year terms and attend periodic meetings on the first and third Thursday’s of the month. Meetings are held as needed, for business purposes. Commissioners will occasionally participate on special committees, attend public meetings and events, cultivate community engagement around historic preservation projects and programs, and meet with City Council and other commissions.

To learn more about the Landmark Commission visit www.redmond.gov, click on “Government,” then “Boards and Commissions” and “Landmark Commission." There is no deadline for applications, but those interested are encouraged to apply by March 15, 2019. The positions will remain open until filled.

To apply, applicants can access, complete, and submit a community service application online, here.
