Redmond, WA – Redmond’s new Downtown Park officially opens to the community on Saturday, September 15. Every great city has a signature place that serves as a destination, an icon for the city, and a catalyst for economic growth. Downtown Park is Redmond’s signature park. It is a place for community members to gather and celebrate, where art and park are indistinguishable, and the community gathers to play, connect, and be inspired.

This vibrant community space encourages neighborhood gatherings, celebrations, special events, art, music, and fun for all residents. Great parks provide all new neighborhoods a community space that is essential to our quality of life. All of Redmonds neighborhoods have parks, and this is our newest addition. This is an exciting moment for the entire Redmond community,” stated Mayor John Marchione.

The grand opening celebration includes a ceremonial ribbon cutting event with Redmond Mayor John Marchione and honored guests. Before the ribbon cutting, OneRedmond welcomes guests to participate in The Dragon Run, a digital scavenger hunt that showcases downtown businesses. Following the ribbon cutting, friends and neighbors will gather for a community picnic as part of Welcoming Week celebrations. The evening continues with an artistic performance by Lucia Neare’s Theatrical Wonders. The festivities conclude with a digital art installation by Redmond Artist in Residence, Maja Petric displayed on the water wall at the pavilion.

The public is invited to attend all or some of the grand opening celebration events. Plan to bring picnic blankets and food, or order a take-out meal from participating restaurants in Downtown Redmond. ADA accessible parking will be available along Redmond Way, and guests are encouraged to park in the Redmond Town Center lot and walk over to the park.

Planning for the Downtown Park included extensive community outreach which allowed the public to determine park features and provide valuable insight on the design. The new park features a raised lawn with deck and trees, splash pad fun for all ages, a pavilion – an artwork titled Buoyant by Jill Anholt -- showcasing a digital water wall and platform for artists, a plaza with dining grove, and much more.
