Redmond, WA – Applications
are now being accepted for the 2018 Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship award,
presented by Waste Management. Currently in its fourth year, the Derby Do-Gooder
Scholarship will be awarded as a part of the 78th Annual Derby Days
summer festival, happening in Redmond July 13-14. The scholarship will award $1,500 to a high school senior
in Redmond who has demonstrated heroic efforts of local community service. In
addition to the scholarship funds, the recipient will also be honored with an
appearance in the Derby Days Grand Parade, Saturday, July 14, 2018.
“Waste
Management values its partnership with the City of Redmond and is invested in
the success of the community. Sponsoring the Do-Gooder Scholarship is just one
way we can support and recognize others who are equally invested. There is no
better way to recognize a student’s contribution to community, sustainability
and engagement than with a donation to their future education,” stated Emily Newcomer, Waste Management’s Public
Sector Solutions Manager.
The Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship
opportunity is just one of the ways that volunteerism is ingrained throughout
the annual Derby Days event. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with the
5k Run/Walk, event set-up and tear-down, event information booth, event
surveys, and more.
“Not only are we excited to once
again celebrate volunteerism of a local teen, but to celebrate the
contributions of hundreds of event volunteers that come out to help make Derby
Days a reality each year,” said Megan Worzella, Events and Marketing Administrator
at the City of Redmond.
The
Do-Gooder Scholarship application and more information about volunteer
opportunities are available at www.RedmondDerbyDays.com.
The scholarship application deadline is May 15, with a recipient announcement
of June 7.
