Trident Seafoods lease leads agenda for Friday's commission meeting

Commissioners are expected at Friday's meeting to hear a second reading of a request to enter into a 20-year lease with Trident Seafoods Corporation. The commission will also consider approving legal fees to recover cleanup costs for a site on East 11th Street, and they will discuss the CEO’s goals for 2017.

The date of this month’s commission meeting was changed from the typical third Thursday of the month to allow for travel. See the full agenda.

Commission meetings are held in Room 104 of the Fabulich Center, 3600 Port of Tacoma Road. Meetings are streamed live at www.portoftacoma.com.

New dates added to bus tour schedule

Pile driving on Pier 4 extended through Feb. 28 under standard hours

Contractors have received permission from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to continue driving piles for Pier 4 in the Tacoma Tideflats through Feb. 28.

Pile driving through this extension is expected to occur during standard hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. Read the full story.

Surviving gulls return to the wild

As you may have read in The News Tribune, several of the gulls that became sick last month have been released back into the wild. While Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife continues to investigate the cause of the gull illnesses and deaths, our biologist has been working with them to get to the bottom of it.
