The Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Council will meet on Thursday, January 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the January 27 Salmon Recovery Council meeting will be a virtual Zoom meeting for all participants and the public.
Zoom instructions are included in the meeting agenda, which is available through our board meetings page: https://psp.wa.gov/board_meetings.php
Meeting highlights include:
- A presentation about the 2022-2026 Action Agenda. This session will include an update about the process to develop the 2022-2026 Action Agenda and an invitation to the Salmon Recovery Council to provide feedback between January 26 and February 9 on the draft Action Agenda Comprehensive Plan, Implementation Plan, and document appendices. Presentation by Dan Stonington, planning manager at the Puget Sound Partnership.
- A presentation and discussion about progress on the Chinook Regional Priorities ("Bold Actions"). In September 2017, the Salmon Recovery Council adopted a set of Chinook Regional Priorities—commonly referred to as the "Bold Actions"—to accelerate the recovery effort and provide greater focus to the Chinook Implementation Strategy. This session will include a review of past and present work on the Chinook Regional Priorities, an update on progress to date, and an exploration of how the Salmon Recovery Council might help advance implementation of one or more Bold Actions in 2022. Presentation by Dave Herrera, co-vice chair of the Salmon Recovery Council, and Ahren Stroming, executive policy advisor at the Puget Sound Partnership.
- A presentation and discussion about a draft target for the Chinook salmon Vital Sign indicator. The Partnership and partners develop targets as part of a system of measures and indicators to set goals for recovery, monitor and evaluate progress towards those goals, and manage adaptively as we learn about the effectiveness of recovery decisions and investments. During this session, Partnership staff will present a draft target for the Chinook salmon Vital Sign indicator for discussion. The Chinook salmon Vital Sign indicator measures the abundance of wild adult fish on the spawning grounds for the 22 Puget Sound Chinook salmon populations across five geographic regions. Presentation by Annelise Del Rio, monitoring performance analyst/salmon scientist at the Puget Sound Partnership, and Scott Redman, Science and Evaluation program director at the Puget Sound Partnership.
- A presentation and discussion about the 2022 Washington State legislative session. During this session, Partnership staff will provide an update about the 2022 Washington State legislative session, and members of the Salmon Recovery Council's Legislative Committee will provide an update on their work. Presentation by Don Gourlie, legislative policy directory at the Puget Sound Partnership, and members of the Salmon Recovery Council's Legislative Committee.
