The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is excited to announce the launch of Harvest of the Season! Funded by a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm to School Grant, Harvest of the Season is a comprehensive initiative to support Child Nutrition Program operators incorporate foods from Washington into kitchens, classrooms, and homes. |
For each of the 24 local foods featured, resources include:
- A short video that introduces the item and gives ideas for how it can be served in Child Nutrition Programs.

Cafeteria Connections that give tips for crediting, storing, and preparing the food.

Classroom Connections that include activities that encourage children to try and engage with the food.

Family Newsletters that provide content sponsors can send to families so they can continue to enjoy Harvest of the Season at home.
- Colorful poster image files to print and use to promote the Harvest of the Season.
In addition to the food-specific resources above, there are general resources that can help support adopting Harvest of the Season:
- A seasonality wheel to help with menu planning and promote seasonal eating.
Sourcing guides for child nutrition programs and for families with tips for finding the item from large-scale food purchasing to the grocery store.
This initiative was completed with generous support from the partner planning group.

Join ICN to break down the CACFP in simple, easy-to-understand terms and show how it supports children’s growth and development. Participants will learn simple ways to talk with families about the CACFP to build strong relationships.

Save the Date: Taste Washington Day 2026
Taste Washington Day is October 7, kicking off a month of activities recognizing National Farm to School (and CACFP) Month.
Taste Washington Day is an opportunity to showcase Washington-grown foods, connect children with local agriculture, and celebrate the important role that United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Programs play in supporting healthy communities. Sponsors and providers are encouraged to start planning now. Ways to participate include:
- local menu features
- taste tests
- educational activities
- partnerships with local farmers and food producers
Additional resources and celebration ideas will be shared in late summer and early fall.
