Farm to school activities are driving real, positive change by increasing access to better quality food, increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, and increasing positive perception of school meals among staff. |
We extend our sincere thanks to every School Food Authority (SFA) that took the time to complete the Farm to School Census. Your participation helps inform national strategies and strengthen farm to school programs across the country.

Harvest of the Summer
Is your district serving meals this summer? Consider following along with our Harvest of the Summer Calendar. To support use of local foods, we are excited to feature Harvest of the Summer resource sheets. Each week in July and August, we highlight one in-season local food. The resource sheets include fun facts, nutritional information, selection and storage tips, recipe ideas, and educational resources/activities.
For August, we are featuring peaches, garlic, peppers, and tomatillos. You can find these and future Harvest of the Summer resource sheets on our Farm to Summer webpage.

Taste Washington Day and National Farm to School Month
Are you planning Taste Washington Day or National Farm to School Month menus for October? Taste Washington Day and the Washington Apple Crunch will be celebrated statewide on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. It’s never too early to start thinking about how your school can celebrate.
Taste Washington Day and National Farm to School Month offer a wonderful opportunity to highlight Washington grown foods in your school meals and connect students with local agriculture. This annual event brings schools together to support local farmers, promote healthy eating, and celebrate National Farm to School Month.
Remember, everyone crunches at the same time during the Washington Apple Crunch. Encourage your students, staff, and community to take a big bite of a locally grown apple at noon on October 8!
Need help finding locally grown foods? Eat Local First’s Washington Wholesale Food Finder is an online map of local farmers, ranchers, fishers and processors that can identify vendors near you.
For planning support, keep an eye on the WSDA Farm to School website. Updated sign-up forms and resources will be available soon.
