New OSPI Guidance: Protections for Immigrant Students

In response to conversations and actions underway at the federal level, today, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) released guidance on state and federal protections for immigrant students in Washington’s K–12 public schools.

The guidance provides school districts with a roadmap of requirements related to student privacy, access to educational services, and immigration enforcement on school campuses.

Required Annual Dual Credit Notification Template Now Available

A dual credit notification template is now posted to the Dual Credit Programs webpage. This template is intended for local use to fulfill the new annual dual credit notification requirements as explained in Attachment #1 of OSPI Bulletin 067-24.

Districts and schools are encouraged to adapt this template to notify students and families of all available dual credit options or use the content and required elements to produce their own communications.

Notification must be provided annually through email and other methods prior to registration for the following school term,and translated into the primary language of each recipient to the greatest extent possible.

Graduation Equity Webinar: Culturally Responsive Practices & Policies that Help Students Attend & Engage, 2/12

What gets students excited about learning? Engagement is often a result of meaningful connections. Relevant lessons that tie to students’ lived experiences and cultural identities can be powerful motivation. The webinar will talk about options for asset and mastery-based learning practices, ways to leverage student strengths for greater engagement, and ways to support cultural activities and bereavement in partnership with families and without shaming. Sui-Lan Ho’okano will share her experiences with transforming school approaches and OSPI Office of Native Education and Learning Options department staff with us to share from their experiences across the state.

Career and College Readiness Supports Heading New

Universal HSBP Platform Updates

December 2024: OSPI published Bulletin B071-24 explaining the need for districts to complete the HSBP Platform District Readiness Assessment Survey in January. Survey results will be used to determine which districts begin using the new statewide SchooLinks platform as part of the Fall 2025 or Fall 2026 launch cohort. OSPI will announce those cohorts by the end of February.
