SP 07-2025, CACFP 07-2025: Requirement to Accept Medical Statements from Registered Dietitians for Schools and Child and Adult Care Institutions and Facilities
Some questions addressed in the memo include:
- Which professionals may submit medical statements on behalf of participants with disabilities?
- Are RDs who are employed by local program operators or state administering agencies allowed to write medical statements for participants?
- Can program operators accept medical statements from healthcare professionals licensed in a different state than where the school, child and/or adult care institution, or facility serving the participant is located?
- Are RDs providing medical statements required to be licensed?
- Who is a “registered dietitian” or “registered dietitian nutritionist?”
On December 20, 2024, the USDA released the following policy guidance to support CACFP operations following the publication of the final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (89 FR 31962, April 25, 2024). This memo supersedes CACFP 11-2023.
CACFP 06-2025, Feeding Infants and Meal Pattern Requirements in the Child and Adult Care Food Program; Questions and Answers :
- Updates guidance regarding who may write medical statements to request modifications on behalf of infants with disabilities within the CACFP;
- Describes the option to substitute vegetables for grains in eligible areas;
- Updates product-based sugar limits for breakfast cereals and yogurt from total sugars to added sugars;
- Includes updated information on tofu crediting;
- Includes one new question regarding tempeh crediting;
- Adopts standardized terminology such as “institutions and facilities;” and
- Reorganizes information throughout the memorandum for clarity.

Request for Information: Child Nutrition Programs Tribal Pilot Projects
The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, provided $2 million for pilot projects that will allow Tribes to administer Child Nutrition Programs, assuming the roles and responsibilities typically held by state agencies.

The request for information aims to obtain input to inform future policymaking, guidance, and technical assistance related to grain-based desserts and high-protein yogurt crediting in Child Nutrition Programs.

Sponsors of USDA Child Nutrition Programs enter into a permanent agreement at the time of their initial approval. This agreement stays in effect during subsequent years of approved Program operation.
Per CFR 200.332(a)(1) it is required that the Child Nutrition Program federal fund pass-through agency (OSPI) send a formal federal award notification to fund recipients (Sponsors) annually.
On December 31, 2024, Sponsors received an award notification of federal funds from OSPI. This is the first year OSPI is sending these notifications to Sponsors. No action is required upon receipt of this notification. This award letter should be kept with your Child Nutrition Program documentation.

Join CACFP facilitators for this all-day virtual, instructor-led session covering the basics of operating multiple sites! This training will be interactive with activities for the large group and in small break-out sessions. Participants will consider the operational aspects of adding additional sites, discuss successes and challenges of current operations, and participate in a hands-on monitoring experience in the afternoon.
Training is Required for:
- Independent Sponsors becoming a multi-site Sponsor, and
- Sponsors assigned this training as part of corrective action from an administrative review.
Training is Optional for:
- Multi-site Sponsors interested in a "refresher" training, and
- Independent Sponsors interested to learn more about becoming a multi-site Sponsor.
