Collecting data from districts is an extensive process with cross-team coordination. For each additional element collected at the state level, there are implications across the entire system, from the classroom to OSPI. In thinking ahead to data collection changes, please fill out this form. This includes collecting new data, or changes to existing data collections, across data domains. Requests will be reviewed through data governance. The form is also on Data Governance, on the right. Join office hours Fridays at 9am, to cover this & other data governance questions.
State agencies are required to utilize DES Statewide Contracts (formerly known as "Master Contracts") when purchasing services and goods. Statewide Contracts are lists of vendors/suppliers, competitively procured by DES on behalf of all state agencies, who offer services in certain areas of expertise (training, IT, etc.) or certain types of goods (office supplies, medical equipment, etc.).
DES has identified three vendors who provide office supplies on Statewide Contract 06019: 1) Pacific Office Solutions, 2) 360 Office Solutions, and 3) Office Depot. Amazon is not on the approved Statewide Contract at this time.
Effective June 1, all office supply purchases must be made from one of these three vendors unless they do not offer the product(s) we require to implement our business needs. When purchasing office supplies from any other vendors (including Amazon), a Staffing Paper must be included with the Purchase Request to explain why the statewide contractors do not meet the agency's business need. Pacific Office Solutions is a woman-owned, Washington small business, so using this vendor will increase OSPI's contribution to statewide, uniform progress in equity and inclusion in state contracting and procurement with small, minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses.
A new agency account has been set up with Pacific Office Solutions and login information will be available on the Purchasing intranet page. If you have any questions, please reach out to purchasing@k12.wa.us.
The Public Records Office will host a Public Records Act training on June 13, 2024, from 1:30-2:30 pm. We will cover Public Records Request policies and procedures and address critical issues and questions involving all staff, including contractors, interns, volunteers, and board members. Please note this is separate from the Records Management training provided by our Agency Records Manager, Whitney Englund, during NEO. Training is required for anyone working with agency records, including contractors and board members. All new employees must attend; anyone needing a refresher course is welcome to join.

Letters to OSPI
Girl Scout Bronze Award Olive, from Girl Scout Troop 40036, wrote a letter to OSPI to inform us about her Bronze Award Project. Their troop is working to identify problems in their community and develop solutions. "To earn the Bronze Award we are helping with cleaning up the dog waste at schools, parks, and much more. We went to a school and talked to the principal and suggested ways to prevent more dog waste on their field." Olive's troop leader added: "They plan to put together instructional materials that they can present to the public at a variety of upcoming events with the hope of changing peoples' behavior."
The OSPI Comm Team recorded Superintendent Reykdal's video response to Olive and her troop about her Bronze Award Project. View the video here.
