The CACFP Advisory Council is made up of 10 Sponsors that operate various components of CACFP throughout the state. The council helps bring Washington state CACFP concerns to OSPI and assists in driving changes to improve program administration.
There are currently two institution vacancies on the council. We are looking for military, School District, and tribal representation. If selected, commitment to the council includes monthly, one year meetings, and would run through December 2025.
If your institution is interested in joining the CACFP Advisory Council, please email CACFP@K12.wa.us.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) published the Proposed Rule entitled “Serious Deficiency Process in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)”. The proposed rule can be viewed here: Federal Register Notice
The USDA is proposing important modifications to the serious deficiency process in CACFP, extending the process to CACFP unaffiliated sponsored centers, and establishing a serious deficiency process in SFSP. These changes will improve consistency in language and process among statute, regulations, and guidance for both CACFP and SFSP, improve consistency in the serious deficiency process within and across States and strengthen program integrity.

Written comments must be received on or before May 21, 2024 to be considered.
Please see USDA’s Serious Deficiency Process in the CACFP and SFSP webpage for more information, including a summary chart of proposed provisions.

The federal government used Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance Number (CFDA) as a resource to help find government programs available to corporations, government agencies, and citizens. Child Nutrition Programs are assigned a CFDA Number. CFDA numbers are used routinely in reporting federal grants and grant expenditures for example, the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).
Recently, CFDA numbers transitioned to Assistance Listing Number (ALN). Only the name changed.

The Department of Ecology has new and upcoming requirements designed to reduce litter and PFAS pollution from disposable food packaging and service ware. There are five different requirements that organizations serving food (including schools and child and adult care institutions) should know about:
- Use PFAS-free food packaging.
- Avoid expanded polystyrene (EPS).
- Look for compostable product labeling.
- Avoid single-use plastic carryout bags.
- Ask customers before giving out single-use service ware.
Learn more about the requirements on their blog.
View the printable Quick Guide for Food Service Organizations and Businesses that summarizes the requirements for disposable food packaging. Also available in multiple languages:
Appeal procedures give USDA Child Nutrition Programs sponsors an avenue to appeal when the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction Child Nutrition Services takes adverse administrative action as required by federal regulations.
These procedures are specific in what actions are appealable and what programs they apply to. Appeal procedures are included in Final Letters summarizing review findings; however, you may review the procedure at any time on our webpages.
