CACFP week is coming! To celebrate, OSPI Child Nutrition Services is joining the National CACFP Sponsors Association (NCA) for its annual national education and information campaign. This campaign is designed to raise awareness of how the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program works to combat hunger and bring healthy foods to the table for participants of childcare centers, adult day services and day care homes across the country.

The Culinary Institute of Child Nutrition (CICN) is thrilled to announce an exceptional opportunity during CACFP week! Join us for an exclusive, hands-on culinary training designed specifically to enhance your skills in preparing nutritious, delicious meals for children. Trainings will focus on Flavor Development & Fruit. Registration is limited to the first 24 participants in each class. Class is appropriate for CACFP direct line kitchen staff and in-home providers. The deadline to register is Friday, March 8th.

Register for the Fruits Training (7:45am -12:30 pm) Learn best practices for incorporating fruit into CACFP menus using Child Nutrition-approved recipes.
Register for the Flavor Development Training (12:45 – 5:15pm) Explore flavor development, the identification of basic tastes, layering flavors effectively, and the strategic use of herbs and spices.

The 2023–24 Washington Public School Data for Area Eligibility Report is now available. This report has been updated as of February 28, 2024.
This report may be used to establish area eligibility for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the Seamless Summer Option (SSO), and the Afterschool Snack Program (ASP). Area eligibility may be assigned if school data indicates that the proposed meal site is located in an attendance area of a public school where at least 50% of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.
The Area Eligibility in Child Nutrition Program Reference Sheet provides more details on area eligibility.
Data from this report is also used to determine eligibility for the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program (FFVP), House Bill (HB) 1238 – Meals for Washington Students, and Breakfast After the Bell (BAB). Eligibility for these programs will be announced in the coming weeks.
