Legislative News
During the 2022 legislative session, the legislature passed HB 1590 and HB 1878. HB 1590 provides stabilization funds for LAP allocations and hold harmless for high poverty eligibility for the 2022–23 school year. If a school was eligible for high poverty funding for the 2020–21 school year, it will be eligible for high poverty funding for the 2022–23 school year even if the three-year poverty average has fallen below 50 percent. These measures will be included on the LAP calculator, which is set to release in early April on the Budget Preparations page. For questions about high poverty percentages, please contact Becky McLean (Becky.McLean@k12.wa.us) or Michelle Matakas (Michelle.Matakas@k12.wa.us). For questions about the LAP calculator, please contact Melissa Jarmon (Melissa.Jarmon@k12.wa.us).
HB 1878 expands eligibility for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Any district, group of schools in a district, or school with an Identified Student Percentage (ISP) of at least 40 percent is eligible. ISP is the number of Identified Students over enrollment. Identified Students are children who are certified eligible for free school meals without a household application. More guidance will be shared soon. For questions about the CEP, please contact Mikhail Cherniske (mikhail.cherniske@k12.wa.us).
