The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) is accepting proposals from consultants interested in leading a project to review and revise the current curriculum for the Recruiting Washington Teachers (RWT) and Bilingual Educators Initiative (BEI) programs. RWT and BEI are high school teacher academies that support students as they explore cultural identity and educational opportunities through the lens of the teaching profession. Both programs were designed to “grow our own” group of future teachers who more closely reflect the diverse demographics of Washington’s students, with BEI focusing primarily on developing future bilingual educators.
The RWT curriculum serves as the foundational guide for program leaders and centers students’ lives and their educational experiences throughout the course. The curriculum also incorporates academic and professional content, culturally relevant practices, and a practicum in which students gain hands-on teaching experience in a classroom.
The RWT program was established in 2007, while BEI only began its first full year of program operation in 2018-19. As such, the curriculum does not currently reflect all of the program requirements outlined in BEI legislation. PESB is requesting a full curriculum evaluation and update to ensure a final product that meets the needs of both programs.
This RFP is available on the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) website and at the Department of Enterprise Services, Washington Electronic Business Solution (WEBS) Procurement website.
PESB is hosting a virtual pre-bid conference for prospective consultants on March 16 at 12 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and ask questions. Register to attend.
