This notice is to inform you that private schools are subject to the Governor’s recent Proclamations on mandatory mask wearing and vaccinations. The Governor’s Proclamations have the force of law and are legally binding. Please note: Private schools that have policies or practices that are out of compliance with Washington state law may have their State Board of Education approval as a private school rescinded.
Mask mandate: The Governor’s Proclamation 20-25.15 adopts the most recent face covering order issued by the Secretary of Health, Order 20-03.4. Under this order, every person in Washington must wear a face covering when they are in a place that is generally accessible to any person from outside their household.
Vaccination mandate: The Governor’s Proclamation 21-14.1 prohibits “Any Worker from engaging in work for the operator of an Educational Setting after October 18, 2021, if the Worker has not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.” Worker includes “A person engaged to work as an employee, on-site volunteer, or on-site contractor for . . . an operator of an Educational Setting.” Educational Setting includes private schools. More information is available in the Vaccine Mandate Frequently Asked Questions, including information about exemptions and accommodations.
More information about the Governor’s mandates may be found on the Governor’s announcement web page. Other links to information and resources may be found on the SBE Private Schools web page.
