Free WEST-B practice tests are now available
Washington candidates now have access to a free, interactive, full-length practice test for each of the Washington Educator Skills Test—Basic (WEST—B) subtests.
Similar to the real test, each practice test will include the same number of scorable items. After completing and submitting your practice test, you will immediately receive results for the multiple-choice questions. On incorrect answers, your results may also include the correct response with an explanation as to why. For the writing subtest, your results will provide you with sample responses that you can compare your own answers to as a way to gauge performance and identify areas of improvement.
To access the free WEST-B practice tests, please visit the WEST site.
Basic skills requirement
You are required to take the Washington Educator Skills Test – Basic (WEST-B) for admission into any approved teacher preparation program. In lieu of the WEST-B, you can take an equivalent test, such as the SAT or ACT.
In 2019, the Legislature removed the requirement of meeting a specific passing score. Preparation programs will use your results as a formative assessment of academic strengths and weakness to determine your readiness for the program.
