Message from Veronica Gallardo, Director of Migrant and Bilingual Education

Good Afternoon,

I’m pleased to share that Superintendent Reykdal has approved a transition from the ELPA-21 Consortium to the WIDA Consortium. The decision was made after much input from stakeholders and the Bilingual Education Advisory Committee. OSPI plans to fully transition from the current English Language Proficiency Standards and ELPA-21 assessment to WIDA K-12 English Development Standards for the 2021-22 school year, and the first administration of the annual WIDA assessment would be spring of 2022. A letter from Superintendent Reykdal was sent to district leaders yesterday.

In addition to the transition to WIDA, online professional development opportunities will be available beginning with an eSummit October 12-30. This summit is free to WIDA Consortium states. Educators will need to Request a WIDA Secure Portal Account as soon as possible in order to have a secure account prior to the eSummit. Please review this flyer for details on the training and how to request an account.

WIDA eSummit | October 12-30, 2020

The WIDA eSummit is a free virtual learning opportunity for educators in WIDA Consortium member states, territories and federal agencies. The event will be held October 12-30, 2020. Each week of the eSummit has a theme with three sessions (presented via webinars) relating to the weekly theme. Sessions will be 45-60 minutes long. Recordings and downloadable resources will be available after the event.

Members of the WIDA Consortium will be able to access the eSummit through the eLearning Center in the WIDA Secure Portal. Registration is not required. However, attendees must have a valid WIDA Secure Portal account.
