Meet Ann

Ann is currently a mental health specialist in the North Thurston school district, and she brings to the Board over 29 years of experience as a school social worker.

As a new member of the board, Ann most looks forward to “promoting the preparation, development and retention of all Educational Staff Associates (ESA's), who have an important and critical role in the education of our students. ESA's bring valuable skills, knowledge and perspective to our work with students alongside administrators and teaching staff.  To be effective in their unique roles they must be well prepared, trained and supported throughout their career.”

Ann earned her Masters in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. She is a licensed independent clinical social worker, and holds a certificate as an Educational Staff Associate - School Social Worker. Her background includes a strong emphasis on children and family mental health.

Ann describes that throughout her career, she feels most inspired by her peers and colleagues: fellow school social workers. "They have not only championed the importance of social workers being placed in school settings, but also provided me with support and training in how to navigate school systems. As always their focus has been on how we can support students and families while eliminating barriers to learning. Along with all the other outstanding ESA's in our field, including school psychologists, counselors, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, speech language pathologists, and so forth, we can effectively support students and staff to be able to maximize a student's potential."

We look forward to Ann joining us at the March meeting.
