Funds available to explore bilingual high school teacher academy

A second round of mini grants are now available for schools interested in starting a bilingual focused high school teaching academy. The purpose of the Recruiting Washington Teachers – Bilingual Educators Initiative (RWT–BEI) teacher academy is to recruit, prepare, and mentor bilingual high school students to become future bilingual teachers and counselors in the state of Washington. In November 2019, PESB awarded $10,000 mini grants to the following school districts: Grandview, Kennewick, Northshore, Peninsula, Sedro-Woolley, and Woodland.

What is RWT-BEI?

The mission of Recruiting Washington Teachers (RWT) is to create a teaching workforce more reflective of Washington’s students, while diminishing the teacher shortage, and increasing educational opportunities for historically underserved students. RWT-BEI programs use the RWT curriculum, which emphasizes the importance of cultural identity and equity in the profession of teaching.
