  1. Full-day Kindergarten Survey and Webinar
  2. Attendance and Truancy in ALE
  3. Testing Alternatives and Waivers
  4. Upcoming Events

1. Full Day Kindergarten Survey & Webinar

Full Day Kindergarten Implementation Survey

School districts and charter schools offering full-day kindergarten (FDK) in the Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) setting must complete a survey describing how they are meeting the requirements of RCW 28a.150.315

The deadline to submit this survey is December 15th, 2017.

The information collected via the survey will be used to better understand FDK models in ALE, and will inform the drafting of final rules for full-day kindergarten in the ALE setting.

If you have questions, please review the bulletin adendum or contact Karma Hugo

2. Attendance and Truancy in ALE

The Graduation A Team Effort (GATE) department at OSPI presented on the implications of attendance during their September webinar.

The Alternative Learning Department has created recorded a follow-up video of how the topics relate to an ALE setting.

Please take the opportunity to watch these videos and provide feedback. We also want to hear how programs are tracking attendance, chronic absence and truancy in settings where attendance isn't counted in seat time.

3. Testing Alternatives & Waivers

Testing Alternatives

Most Washington state public high school students will fulfill the assessment portion of their graduation requirements by passing required state tests. Some students, however, need a different method to demonstrate that they possess the knowledge and skills required for graduation. For current information on assessment graduation alternatives and waivers, please visit the OSPI Graduation Alternatives website

Waivers

RCW 28A.655.065 as amended by Engrossed Substitute House Bill (ESSB) 2224, signed by Governor Inslee on July 7, affects high school assessments and graduation requirements. One component of the new law is an expedited appeal process for waiving specific assessment graduation requirements for eligible students in the Classes of 2014 through 2018.  For more information on waivers, please visit the OSPI Graduation Alternatives website and review Bulletin No. 065-17.
