Stadler Ridge Park Opens

Ribbon Cutting Event

Neighborhood families in NE Lynnwood were welcomed to the opening of their new neighborhood park on Monday, April 1, 2013.

Mayor Don Gough and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Director Lynn Sordel thanked the project partners, and recognized the Stadler family, for whom the park is named, as one of the first families which settled in this part of Alderwood Manor in 1928.

The two-acre neighborhood park was funded with a grant from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program and the City of Lynnwood General Fund.

The City first acquired four lots to provide a park for this neighborhood in 2001. Public meetings were held to give the neighbors the opportunity to help plan their park, and construction began in 2012. The park’s natural theme includes rocks, stumps and logs retained in the landscape; at-grade slides connect hillside terraces with play equipment; a loop trail encircles the park; and nature trails wind through the forested areas.

Stadler Ridge Park is located at 17428 33rd Place West.

Arbor Day Celebration

Junior Park Rangers Plant Trees

Following the Stadler Ridge Park ribbon cutting, neighborhood families celebrated Arbor Day with the planting of Douglas fir and vine maple trees at the south end of the park. After planting their trees, the children earned a Lynnwood Junior Park Ranger badge, pledging to “appreciate, respect, and protect Lynnwood’s parks.”

The Tree City USA® program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Recognition as a Tree City increases public awareness of the many social, economic and environmental benefits of our urban forest. Through the City’s efforts to improve and protect its urban forest, Lynnwood has qualified as a Tree City USA community since 1998.
