Wastewater Treatment Plant - Statement from Lynnwood Public Works Director Regarding Property Acquisition Near the Wastewater Treatment Plant

SURVEY CREWS ARE OUT AND ABOUT AT THE TREATMENT PLANT

During the Lynnwood Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades Project’s planning phase (January – November 2026), you may notice some additional people and equipment around the facility.

Last week, crews were onsite to perform geotechnical borings on and around the facility property. What are geotechnical borings, you ask? The work involves digging a hole into the ground with a long and narrow drill with as little soil disturbance as possible. What we learn about the types of soil and rocks in the area will help the team design upgrades that work with the site’s unique conditions.

This week, crews are marking and documenting the wetland areas around the facility. Our environmental team will begin the process of mapping and documenting the site’s wetland characteristics such as vegetation, water levels, and elevation changes. This is the first step to consulting with regulatory agencies and outlining the environmental process that will take place during design (anticipated in 2027 – 2028). Surveying the area around the facility will help the project team fully understand the land and waterways to mitigate and/or avoid potential impacts.

If you see crews performing fieldwork, please note this does not necessarily mean the properties being surveyed will be affected by the project; it just means they are within the study area, and the work will help our team build the basis for the design.

If you have questions about fieldwork in your area, you can contact Public Works Program Manager Ehsan Shirkhani at 425-670-5218 or Plant Manager Tanner Boyle at 425-754-7268. You can also email pwrequest@LynnwoodWA.gov.
