Lynnwood Detectives, through an ongoing criminal investigation, developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for Theft 1st degree and Criminal Impersonation 1st Degree. Detectives learned the victims in this case were prompted by a 1-800 number and led to believe the caller was a U.S. Treasury Agent. Unfortunately, the total loss to the retired victims in this case is over $600,000 dollars. The suspect was arrested by the United States Marshal’s Service and booked into the Los Angeles County Jail.
On 1/23/2025, the male was extradited back to Washington State and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
The Lynnwood Police Department wants to remind our community members these types of scams are very common, are very sophisticated, and can seem very real. This type of criminal activity frequently targets the elderly and/or vulnerable adult population. Law enforcement agencies will not call asking community members for money. If you are contacted by a person identifying themselves as law enforcement asking for money, it is recommended to never disclose any personal information. Ask the caller for their name, phone number, what agency they represent, and hang up. Verify the information by contacting a published contact number and never give personal information over the phone unless you have confirmed the validity of the caller.
