Crews pave the street on the south side of 196th St SW near 44th Ave W
Upcoming Street Closures
- The southbound I-5 exit to travel west on 196th St SW (SR 524) will be closed each night beginning Monday, August 29 through Thursday, September 1 between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for nighttime construction. The southbound I-5 exit to travel east on 196th St SW will remain open.
- Crews will be working overnight to place asphalt in the street.
- You can expect construction lights and noise as they complete this work.
- The offramp will reopen during the daytime.
- The south leg of 48th Ave W will remain closed through Friday, August 26 at 5 p.m.. Please follow detour signs during this work.
- The south leg of 44th Ave W at 196th St SW will be fully closed from Monday, August 29 at 7 a.m. through Friday, September 2 at 5 p.m.
We understand that the 196th St Improvement Project is impactful on the surrounding neighbors and traffic. Major roadway work for this project is expected to be finished in late 2023.
This schedule may change depending on weather conditions or availability of materials.
We thank you for your patience during construction. Our crews are working to complete upgrades as efficiently and effectively as possible. We will continue shifting travel lanes around work zones to allow us to maintain the safety of the crews and traveling public.

Weeks of August 22, 2022 and August 29, 2022
48th Ave W to 36th Ave W
- Installing drainage and retaining walls
- Grading and placing sidewalk concrete
- Grading and paving driveways and curbs
- Converting overhead utilities to underground
- Digging (potholing) to confirm underground utility locations
- Placing lighting along the corridor
- Roadway excavation
Other areas of work
- Equipment and materials will be staged along 195th Pl SW for the duration of the project
