Burglar uses stolen front-loader to smash into bank
LYNNWOOD, WA (June 22,2022) - On June 22nd at 7:15pm witnesses observed a man crashing a large construction equipment front-loader into the Chase Bank building at 4001 Alderwood Mall Boulevard. The man was observed ramming the front loader into the corner of the building at least three times, tearing out the wall and strewing debris in the parking lot.
After creating a gaping hole in the building, the male was seen exiting the front-loader and attempting to enter the building, although it was unclear if he gained entry. The ATM was not compromised and no money was stolen. He was then seen leaving on foot in a westerly direction. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30's, 5'09", slim build, black hair. He was reportedly wearing a green hoody, jeans, and possibly slippers.
Officers responded to the scene and deployed a drone and a K-9 team. The K-9 team did locate a sweatshirt believed to have been worn by the suspect. The suspect was not located despite an intensive effort.
The construction front-loader was determined to have been stolen from the nearby construction zone occurring along 196th ST SW/44th Ave W. It was returned to the construction company.
