Lynnwood Community Justice Center Project Update
Construction has officially begun on the new Lynnwood Community Justice Center.
The City of Lynnwood held a groundbreaking ceremony on the new Lynnwood Community Justice Center on October 27, 2021. The Center will encompass a new police, court, and jail facility with an expected completion date of late summer or early fall 2023. The 69-million dollar multi-purpose facility will be funded without any new taxes.
“The city identified space and functional challenges with our existing facility more than two decades ago, and for the last three years I have endeavored along with many others to bring this project to fruition,” explained Lynnwood Police Chief Jim Nelson. “As the city has grown over the past 27 years so has the need for improved and expanded police and court services to include a reimagined jail with a focus on treatment and programming to reduce recidivism. The goal is to provide some of our most vulnerable community members with substance abuse and mental health treatment while they are in our custody so they have continuity of care and a support system upon their release.”
A Community Recovery Center, which is being developed in partnership with the State and Snohomish County, is a planned addition to the project and is currently in the design phase. There will be more information about this component of the project at a later date.
